Open Courses Header Image

TDI’s range of Open Courses deal with specific issues around sexual offending and sexual harm. They build on material covered in our Bitesize training sessions, combining them to give a more holistic understanding of topics.

These courses are suitable primarily for those who work with known sexual offenders in a non-therapeutic role, or those who work in settings where service use by unknown offenders may be an issue. Some courses are targeted at particular job roles or settings, others are more generally applicable.

The courses are designed for individuals or small numbers of trainees from a single organisation. For those seeking to train more staff, we are able to design bespoke courses which are able to deal with the issues unique to you and which are generally more cost-effective.

Courses are delivered remotely by TDI’s training team, supported by written workbooks. All TDI’s trainers are experts in the field, with years of practical experience. You can learn more about our trainers on our 'People' page.

Courses run over 4 hours from 9:30 to 1pm to allow for comfort breaks. Note: Church Settings course offer morning or afternoon check date for timings

There is a regular calendar of courses, with each course running multiple times across the year.

Guest Workshop with Sheryl Simms - Organisational Accountability for Reducing Risk of Sexual Harm.
Guest Workshop with Sheryl Simms - Organisational Accountability for Reducing Risk of Sexual Harm.
Thursday 22nd May 2025 at 09:00am

NB. This is an in person workshop in Newcastle City Centre  9am-3:30pm (not online)

This is a special one off- workshop so confirm your booking asap!

TDI is delighted to offer this one-day event aimed at managers seeking to understand more
about sexuality, sexual abuse and harm in the context of organisational accountability.
Course leader Sheryl Simms is a highly experienced professional in the fields of public protection,
safeguarding and education.
As organisations increasingly shoulder the burden of accountability not only for the safety and
behaviour of their staff and clients, but for their suppliers, visitors, and other connected parties,
managers face a bewildering range of responsibilities. Recent changes to legislation on sexual
harassment, the growth in concern about online harms, rapidly changing cultural norms, and
enhanced employment rights all add complexity for those in generic management positions as
well as those working in more targeted specialist areas.
This course aims to give participants some legal and social context around sexuality and sexual
harm, an introduction to perpetrator behaviour and the identification of opportunities to offend,
and some practical pointers to action and steps to take to address issues and situations of risk.
The tone will be interactive, engaging and accessible. Participants will have the opportunity to
share their own case studies in a safe environment and will come away with added knowledge, a
greater understanding of what they need to be aware of and practical steps they can take to
prevent and manage risk in relation to sexual behaviour.
