We are also able to offer off-the-shelf one- and two-day courses on Sexual Offender Awareness, Working with Sex Offenders, and Child and Adult Safeguarding with particular adaptations for those working with people with learning disabilities, those working in prisons and in housing associations, for care providers and for faith groups.

For organisations with less than 10 potential trainees, places are available on sessions hosted at our office in central Newcastle. These are run regularly, subject to demand; the dates for 2018 are: 27th March, 23rd May, 12th July, 25th September, 22nd November.

Sexual Offender Awareness

This course, normally offered over one day, aims to provide participants with a basic awareness of how sex offenders operate, how they are managed under the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements, and the principles of risk assessment. The course also gives participants some understanding of how to identify and report patterns of potentially risky behaviour.

Working with Sex Offenders

This course builds on the one-day 'Sexual Offender Awareness' course and aims to enable participants to take a proactive role in the management of sex offenders for whom they may provide a range of services including accommodation and social care. It is of particular relevance to organisations aiming to improve their safeguarding and risk management structures and practices in line with best practice guidance at best value for money.

Child and Adult Safeguarding

The course aims to explain what ‘safeguarding’ and ‘child protection’ means and the background to it, clarify employees' roles and responsibilities in relation to safeguarding, explore how to recognise and act on concerns about a child, and consider the professional implications of most recent developments & legislative proposals. It has recently been updated in light of the changes brought into law by the Care Act 2014 and the subsequent statutory guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children and Care and Support Statutory Guidance.

These courses are available as in-house training for organisations for groups of between 10 and 20, and for smaller numbers as part of mixed-organisation sessions hosted by TDI at our offices in central Newcastle. Please drop us a line for details.
